I have recently composed a poignant and profound meditation on a current “trend” I have detected, not only among young people, but among pretty much the entire population. I have set it to a familiar melody. I share it with you now, here, below, thus, to wit, this:
What’s it all about

Is it just for the photo we live?
What’s it all about
When you Tweet it out (Selfie!)
Documenting ev’ry fuck we give
To document we’re alive?
‘Cause if
Ev’ryone’s alive
(Selfie!)
What’s the point giving proof that, like you,
I’ve a life alongside of all the throng?
(Selfie!)
How can I stand out from those posing too?
As sure as I believe
There’s no heaven above (Selfie!)
I know there’s something instead
Something even non-achievers
Can achieve with…
I believe in fame
(Selfie!)
You take the picture, then you post
(Selfie!)
It goes online from coast to coast
Folks see it
(Selfie!)
Ev’ry shot puts my face on display
So I feel real ev’ry day
